Racism on bus #620

02/ 19/ 2018
Around 3:05pm
Racism is obviously not a secret nor a surprise in today's society. However, it is still absolutely disgusting and sad that racist words can be spoken and events can occur in public without a word being said by anyone. It is much easier to keep your face in your phone, your headphones in your ears, and to keep your mouth closed because it's not your business right?

I am a mixed Jamaican/ black/ Caucasian young woman. I was on my way home from work and I'm sitting in the center back of the bus. I pulled the wire for me to get off at my stop. As I stand up and walk towards the front of the bus, the bus driver asks everyone to move to the back of the bus because it is fairly crowded. I had to get off at the front of the bus to get my bike off of the bike rack. One young man decided it was okay to say "Hey Rosa Parks get to the back of the bus!" Did anybody say anything? No.

I did not want to cause a scene and I was so much in shock at what was just said and since he was already at the back of the bus while I was at the front door, I said to the bus driver the disgusting words that were just spoken to me and told him which young man that said it. I mentioned that he should be kicked off of the bus because that is absolutely not acceptable. The bus driver said "oh wow okay." I said thank you and got off the bus.

I took my bike off of the rack and walked onto the sidewalk expecting this man (about 17-22?) to be kicked off the bus or at least spoken to but the bus driver just closed the doors and drove away as I stared in shock.

I'm so disgusted, but not surprised, that comments like this are still said and taken so lightly. The bus driver didn't even say anything to this person and with the bus FULL of people nobody said anything either. How disgusting. How sad. Bless you both and have a fantastic day. ✌🏽

Would like to thank the paramedics that came to my house February 17, 2018 to help with my 6week old who was having breathing issues. They helped me remain calm, reassured this panicked mama, and even got me to smile and relax during a very scary time. In the craziness of it all I dont remember their names, but would like to acknowledge how amazing they were. Also to the nurses and doctors in emerge and on the paediatric floor who did an amazing job woth my daughter and again helped calm and reassure this very worried mama.
Truly grateful for all of you who helped last night.

22 year old car stolen 2 times in a month from Handicapped Senior

Spotted asked if this is a "good spotting" or a "bad spotting". Well I guess it is both!
I want to thank a wonderful person for organizing a much needed fund raiser for my mother! The response has been overwhelming and definately shows that there are so many caring people out there! It's just so unfortunate that a fundraiser is needed though...
My mom's 22 year old car was stolen in December from a geared to income senior building handicapped parking spot! The repairs were just under $500 so instead of opting for a rental car and going with insurance she paid the $470 to fix it. She got it back 2 weeks later. Well a month & 2 days after it was stolen, it got stolen again! This time repairs were more so she went through insurance who ended up writing the vehicle off. The value was a whopping $904 less her $500 deductible so they paid her $404! She just paid $470 weeks earlier so it ended up costing her $ and she is without a vehicle! Her vehicle is her independence. It is her form of freedom! These theives have caused so much stress and heartbreak for my 78 year old mother.
Thankfully a fundraiser is set in place to try to help her purchase a new vehicle. She isn't looking for much. Just something that can get her from point a to point b. She was used to her 22 year old Dodge neon.
There is the email for the fundraiser in the windsor star ad I've attached the link to in case anyone wants to help out. They are taking donations Til the end of February.
Thanks to all the kind hearts who care and have sent well wishes and donations. To the thieves who stole her old car 2 times in a month... I hope you have seen this and feel shame!!!

Extra hand

I just wanted to say thank you to Jelena who works at JYSK. I had gone in with my 8 week old who was sleeping in her car seat/ stroller and needed an extra hand carrying the merchandise I purchased. She was working the cash area and went out of her way to carry my purchases/ load them into the shopping cart and bring them to my car. It can be hard shopping with kids and Jelena went out of her way to accommodate us. You rock!!!

Humanity

Driving up to the hospital today and this happened, saw a wheel chair bound man struggling with a shovel trying to clear the ice slush at the crosswalk ramp at McDouggall and Erie, doing this from his wheel chair, I decided to pull over and help him as I watched him struggle. As I got out this man seen here in the picture had seen the same and beat me to his assistance!! Bravo! He told me his name and I don't feel confident posting it as I am not 100% sure I remember it correct. I know he said he worked for CS wind and is laid off right now.
The world needs more decent human people like him.

Dedicate Windsor Star delivery driver

I just want to wish the 71 year old Windsor star delivery driver a speedy recovery. He slipped on ice while delivering the paper in Amherstburg on February 13th, 2018. He broke his hip, but that didn't stop him from continuing his route by throwing the papers on the driveway instead of delivering to the porch before heading to the ER to be checked. This shows incredible dedication to his job and those who look forward to their paper. Sir, you have been spotted and we wish you a speedy recovery.
