Dedicated to the general sights, news and funny happenings all around the world
This morning (Apr. 27/ 17) at approximately 9:30am I took my two small dogs out (both on leashes) to do their morning 'business' near the walking path behind the buildings in the 87-8800 block of Riverside Dr E.
While they were finishing up I caught a quick movement from the area of Carlton Cres. and the next thing I knew two large dogs came bolting toward us. Immediately they went for my smaller dog and pinned her to the ground, a split second later one latched on to my other dog.
I screamed at the dogs in a loud tone trying not to sound panicked. They refused to let go.
I didn't want to yank my dogs leashes and cause them further harm but I also didn't want to stand there and watch these two dogs injure my dogs.
I am a dog lover and would never want to harm one, but I was forced to physically defend my dogs and myself. They backed up for a second then lunged at my dogs a second time.
I continued to yell 'NO & go on, get out of here.'
Finally they ran west down the path. I quickly reached down to assess my dogs (who had no visible wounds at a quick hands-on check.)
We headed toward my building as I felt the situation was over. I was wrong.
I heard quick steps and looked up to see the smaller of the two dogs running at us again, this time heading for me as my dogs attempted to pull toward the building.
Again I yelled as loud as I could and had to defend myself, finally they ran off again.
With heart in my throat and two very frightened shih-tzu's I headed inside and called the Humane Society.
One dog was approx. 40lbs and resembled a pit bull and I noted a collar and tags. The second one was larger, approx. 70lbs and resembled a cross Shephard & large hound with noticeable patch of fur missing on its snout (where a muzzle might sit.)
I don't have a problem with a particular 'breed' of dog, I have a problem with irresponsible pet owners!
Please people be careful on that path.
I worry for my elderly neighbours who might take their dogs out. There's no way they could defend themselves or their dogs.
